| Do
you enjoy taking pictures? Why not make a little money with your hobby
and sell your pics as royalty-free images. Shutterstock and other
similar sites are what they
call a "micropayment" stock photography site. That means they pay you a
little money for each download of your images, with the idea being that
getting a little money more often is better than getting a higher pay
only once in a while. Traditional stock agencies sell one picture at a
time, but Shutterstock e.g. has a subscription system, where customers
can
download 25 pictures a day. You receive $0.25 for each picture
downloaded, and your pictures can be downloaded over and over by
different customers, and you get paid each time. Some sites pay you
1.00 or more per image sold. Shutterstock and
similar sites only sell royalty-free images, which means buyers can use
these images for brochures, web sites, advertisements, etc, but they
cannot resell them. The important thing is, that any image you submit,
whether photograph, drawing, painting, vector. etc has to be your very
own creation, and you must be the copyright holder. Other than that you can submit any kind of image, photograph, drawing or vector as long as it meets the technical specifications. There is more about that in the FAQ at each site. Each image has to be at least 3 to 4 MP in size. When you submit images, be sure to enter at least 10 to 15 keywords that relate to the picture, so that your images will show up when people do searches. I suggest that you go ahead and sign up. It does not cost you anything and you also don't pay anything for them to host your images. Stock photography is a bit different from let's say picture postcards or art photography. People often want simple pictures of everyday objects, foods, clothes, or simple drawings, 3 D creations, etc., the kind of stuff graphic designers can use. You can sign up using the links below |
